Saint Sebastian was an early Christian saint and martyr. He was killed during the Diocletianic Persecution of Christians. He was initially tied to a post or tree and shot with arrows, though this did not kill him. Soon after, Sebastian intercepted the Emperor, denounced him for his cruelty to Christians, then was beaten to death on the Emperor’s orders. Due to his agility, he is the patron saint of athletes. Feast day January 20th.
